Description and scope of completed work
Rehabilitation and masonry work on the hexagonal chimney took place at the Šivara barracks in Niš in September 2015. The work lasted 21 days and included removal of the damaged section and rebuilding.
A 10-metre section of the chimney was demolished. Rebuilding used 14 m³ of machine-made brick, with pointing to the outside and inside of the chimney and the construction of reinforced concrete ring beams.
A lightning protection ring was installed and 300 kg of metalwork was protected. The complete rebuilt masonry surface was treated with a colourless coating against weathering.
